Animal Osteopath Kate Lockwood

Welcome Osteopathy is a gentle and holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes the role of the musculoskeletal system (bones, muscles and joints) in health and disease. Osteopaths work using their hands to perform a number of soft tissue and mobilisation techniques to treat many common ailments, helping to restore the body to a position where it can facilitate the role of self healing. About Me My name is Kate Lockwood and I began my working career in 1995 working as a Veterinary Nurse in both large and small animal practices throughout the south of England. I made the life changing decision to become an Osteopath after a remarkable personal treatment session with an Osteopath due to having been suffering with back pain for many years. My back had been troubling me for a long time following a fall from my horse, I tried various physical therapies and eventually had Osteopathic treatment. Within 3 or 4 sessions my pain had completely gone. It was amazing waking up in the morning to the realisation that there was no pain. I couldn’t believe that this could be achieved with such gentle treatment and the practitioner only using their hands. Throughout the years my horses have also experienced huge benefits from seeing an Osteopath and the combination of these prompted me to retrain as an Osteopath. I graduated from the British College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM) in London as a Bachelor in Osteopathic Medicine and with a Naturopathic Diploma. I also hold a Masters qualification in Animal Manipulation (Osteopathic Pathway). I treat people at the Castle Osteopathic Clinic in Wallingford and animals are seen in their own home/stable in and around South Oxfordshire and Berkshire. I am fully insured to treat humans and animals and am registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GoSC) and a member of the British Osteopathic Association (BOA). Horses Osteopathy for Horses Osteopathy can be hugely beneficial to all kinds of horses in all disciplines, and can help with so much more than simply back ache! As with humans Osteopathy with animals continues to recognise the importance of the link between the structure of the body and the way it functions. Each equine case is considered as an individual. Utilising a highly developed sense of touch, I will identify problem areas of the body. Using gentle stretching and mobilising techniques as well as manipulating joints I aim to work with the body to create the perfect conditions to facilitate the healing process. Below is a list of some of the most common problems reported by the equine clients I see as to why they have sought Osteopathic treatment, however there are many more conditions that can be helped so please feel free to contact me to discuss your horse’s specific complaint. Uncharacteristic change in behaviour, performance or temperament Unwillingness to engage hind quarters Sudden refusal of fences Bucking Unwillingness to strike on correct canter lead Exhibiting signs of discomfort when being tacked up and/or mounted Difficulty on one rein over the other Some lameness issues (following veterinary diagnosis of the lameness)
